The Don Cafe, located in Isfahan, Iran, is a unique cultural and commercial project designed by MIES Studio. This innovative space redefines the concept of cafes as not just places for dining but as vital social hubs that integrate with the urban fabric. Situated on the ground floor of a 13-year-old building with an unusual geometry, this 97-square-meter space transforms its historical roots into a modern and vibrant social venue.
Neighboring the Zayandeh River and surrounded by a lively district with cinemas and lush greenery, the Don Cafe is designed to connect people with their surroundings. The open and welcoming layout features large windows that provide picturesque views of the exterior, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The interior design prioritizes functionality and style, with custom seating, warm lighting, and textured surfaces that create an intimate yet dynamic ambiance. The use of perforated metal elements adds depth and modernity while maintaining a sense of openness. Comfortable seating areas cater to diverse user groups, emphasizing inclusivity and social interaction.
This project embodies MIES Studio’s mission to create meaningful spaces that serve as both cultural landmarks and practical solutions for urban living. The Don Cafe successfully transforms a previously overlooked site into a thriving community space, redefining the role of cafes in contemporary city life.
